What's on at the
STUDIO...?
You can tell it's busy
when the August newsletter arrives closer to the beginning of September
than August - sorry for my tardiness people!
Hello
Friends & welcome to another creative
update, especially to all of our new readers this month. Here you will discover all the latest from
both of our locations - House of Jules Art Studio where we run a range of
classes, as well as our art supply outlet, Splatters of Milton
where you will find an amazing range of art products,
hand-selected creative gifts and original works. Have a fabulous
month...
MEET
JULES
Well, I think the opening statement says
it all really - I've had an enormously busy month, mainly taken up with
the demands of coordinating the Escape ARTfest which comes our way in
October.
The program is all-but finalised so I can start to re-focus on my own
things for a moment.
I've
personally been working on ideas for my own exhibition as part of the
festival (in between orders, lessons & family that is) and I'm looking
forward to the development of some of the ideas that are at present
swimming aimlessly around in my head. The trick is to sit still long
enough for them to escape!! The little printed canvas shown here is a
bit of a sneak peak at what I've been working on... You'll have to wait
for the rest!
And
since I've been on a roll with my latest passion for painting ukuleles
here's the latest; this one for a gentleman in Tasmania who saw my entry
in the Cairns Ukulele Festival and asked me to paint him a special one
of his own! This latest in the series of Ukulele Ladies features an
autumn-toned beauty playing her own 'ukulele lady' uke. Subtle gold
highlights add a special touch to this unique order.
Thought for the
month:
"In
the hopes of reaching the moon men fail to see the flowers that blossom
at their feet."
Albert
Schweitzer
I feel very
lucky to live in community where creativity is valued and fostered. I'm
off to the National Regional Arts Conference in Launceston, TAS at the
end of this month and very excited about the many ideas, networks and
discussions to be gained from the experience.
On that note: There will be no
classes from Thursday 26th - Monday 30th August inclusive.
ESCAPE ARTFEST 2010: 45
days and counting down!
For
the next 6 weeks artists and hobbyists all over our district will
be getting themselves prepared for the artistic highlight of the year in
our beautiful part of the world. With ten different competitions, 80 events, 40
venues and about 30 art exhibitions, there's no shortage of culture to
be enjoyed! If you haven't experienced the wonder of ARTfest, do
yourself a favour and look it up! Book your room and make sure you're
here for 10 days in October (or at least for a huge long weekend).
The students at House of
Jules have been working on a range of artworks for our exhibition at
Coastal Indulgence in Milton, 'COASTAL'. To celebrate this group
show we'll be having a Champagne & High Tea Buffet Monday 4th Oct
3-5pm - $10 per head, bookings through Jules. Join us & enjoy the many
talented students that come through the studio each week.
We've also been working on
entries in SOAP and the 8x8 Canvas Prize. These are just 2
of the great prizes associated with the festival.

FEATURE PRODUCTS

Art Spectrum Gouache
Art Spectrum Gouache is a
resoluble, quick-drying, water-based colour of excellent opacity with a
consistent, velvety finish. Made in the classic tradition, all colours
are carefully triple-milled to ensure maximum brilliance and even
coating of pigments. This method has been proven by the test of time.
Concentrated pigment colour ensures a little goes a long way.
Art Spectrum genuine artist/designer
gouache can be:
• diluted with water for watercolour effects
• applied in smooth, vibrant fields of colour
• used for fine, precise, detailed painting
• used to create spontaneous work with free-flowing brush strokes

Art Spectrum Gum Arabic
Additions of small amounts of Gum
Arabic to gouache will make the colour resistant to water - useful when
over painting with diluted gouache.
